Anathema's debut album 'Serenades' was released in 1993 by Peaceville Records. The album successfully developed the ideas of their first EP 'The Crestfallen' and included some natural experiments atypical for early death-doom. The album's first track 'Lovelorn Rhapsody' stands out with its dynamic and energetic performance. The album's title refers to the medieval genre of songs sung to a lover.
